C5.0, Cubist, and GritBot are distributed under a licence agreement. By using C5.0, Cubist, GritBot, or their documentation you indicate your willingness to be bound by this agreement.

Download C5.0 / Cubist / GritBot

As the first step, please download the gzipped tar file containing C5.0, Cubist, or GritBot as determined by your computer type:

C5.0 Cubist GritBot

Set Up the System Directory

When you have obtained this file (F.tgz, say):

This creates a directory containing the following sub-directories:

Your Licence ID

Installation requires a valid Licence ID. This is a string of hexadecimal digits containing spaces and terminated by a hash sign (#). Your licence ID looks something like this:
    e06d 7c1e 0e0e 9f23#

The first time that you run C5.0 / Cubist / GritBot, make sure that you are in the bin directory that contains the executable file (c5.0, cubist, or gritbot respectively). You will be prompted to enter your Licence ID and, after it is checked, the executable file will be overwritten. Once the licence ID has been installed in this way, you won't need to enter it again unless you run a copy of the original executable file or you obtain an updated version of the system.

Applications Files

If several users are going to access the same application data files, it is recommended that these be placed in a single directory accessible by all the users. Each user should then set up his or her own applications directory containing links to the common data files. This will prevent conflicts that can occur when two users simultaneously access the same application.

Many interesting data collections are maintained by the University of California, Irvine, in a data repository. For more information on how to access files from this repository, contact the Librarian.
