Purchase Licence

This form provides the information that we need to issue a software licence. Please see our policies and the notes beside some items for further important details.

You should hear from us within a few hours of submitting the form, subject to time zones; if not, please contact rulequest@rulequest.com. As soon as payment arrangements have been completed, we will send you one or more licence IDs and instructions for downloading the software.

Every licence includes 12 months' free upgrades. Please notify any problems installing or using the software to quinlan@rulequest.com.

Licence Type:

Licences are of two kinds, and there are two price scales:

Single Computer licences:: The software can be used on a single computer (including computers with multiple CPUs). There are no restrictions on the number of concurrent users.
Network licences (Windows 2000/Xp/Vista/7 only):: The software is installed on a single Windows PC (the "server"). After running a small registration application, any Windows PC in the server's My Network Places can run the software. The number of client PCs is not restricted, but the number of concurrent users is restricted to 2, 5, or 10.

Licences are available at lower cost to Universities (degree-granting institutions) and their staff and students. If you qualify for University pricing, please select "University Price" and use a University email address.

Computer Name:

The form asks you to name the computer on which the software will be installed (the licensed computer).

On Linux systems the computer name is obtained by the command "hostname".
On Windows 2000/Xp it appears under the "Computer Name" or "Network Identification" tab of the "System" icon in the Control Panel.
For Windows Vista or Windows 7, click "Start", right-click "Computer", and select "Properties" to see the computer name.

The software licence can be transferred to a different computer, for instance when the licensed computer fails or is taken out of service. We reserve the right to limit these licence transfers to one every twelve months, but may allow more frequent transfers in exceptional circumstances.

Email Address:

The email address specifies where we should send the instructions for downloading the software and the licence ID that is needed to activate it. For University licences, please use your University email address. This field should contain only a single email address -- please do not use multiple addresses separated by commas.

Unless required by law, we will not divulge your email address to any other person or organization.

Upgrading to New Releases:

Purchase of a licence entitles you to free upgrades for a period of twelve months from the date of purchase. After this time you can upgrade to a new release for the same product, licensed computer, and licence type at a 50% discount on the list price.

If you wish to upgrade as above, please enter a current ID for the licensed computer. Otherwise, this field should be left blank.

If you are upgrading a See5/C5.0 + Cubist package, please use your See5/C5.0 licence ID.

The licence ID should be of the form "xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx#". Some very old licence IDs are longer than this -- if your ID is of this kind, please contact us before submitting your order.

Notification of New Releases:

If you answer "yes" to this question, we will send a short email whenever there is a new release of the software that you have purchased. We will never send any advertisements or other material.

Method of Payment:

Payment can be made by credit card (MasterCard or Visa), bank check, bank transfer, or purchase order.

Credit cards are charged in Australian Dollars (AUD). Due to variable exchange rates, the USD, Euro, and Pound equivalents are approximate only. Credit card purchasers will be redirected to our Bank's secure server for entry of card details. We will send a receipt to the same email address that was given on the form.
